Yellowstone National Park: Hiking to the Mesmerizing Mystic Falls

Mystic Falls in Yellowstone NAtional Park

The last hike we made in Yellowstone National Park was to Mystic Falls, and oh, did we save a good one for last! If you’ve ever seen the Lord of the Rings movies, you’ll understand when I say that it felt like we walked right into The Shire. The green of the hills and the gorgeous stream and waterfall were magical.

The hike to Mystic Falls begins in the Biscuit Basin area. We parked in the main parking area for Biscuit Basin, then walked through to the back side of the area where the trailhead starts. It’s .3 miles to the trailhead, then a 2.4 mile there and back trail to get to the waterfall. There is a little bit longer option to take a trail that takes you to an overlook of the falls, but we were at the end of the day and didn’t have time for the longer option!

About halfway up the hike, there was a gorgeous opening that was filled with wildflowers. On this trip, I completely fell in love with the mountain wildflowers that were blooming!

Wildflowers along the trail to Mystic Falls

When we arrived at the falls, our breath was taken away at how beautiful the area along the river and the falls itself are. The area really does have a mystical quality and I agree with the name!! The area was so very green!

There are these curvy looking rocks along the right side of the waterfall that look like something that just had to have been carved! Nature does some nice work!

We climbed around on the rocks a little bit and took some family photos and made our last hike at Yellowstone National Park one of our best and favorite hikes of the trip!
