Yellowstone National Park: Kepler Cascades

Four miles southeast of the famous Old Faithful at Yellowstone National Park, along the Firehole River is Kepler Cascades. An easily accessible pullout and viewing platform make this a quick stop along the Grand Loop Road to see one of Yellowstone’s many waterfalls!

The parking lot is easy to pull into and the walkway to the platform is easily accessible. It’s just a short walk across the parking lot to the viewing platform.

The view from the platform looks down over a steep gorge into the Firehole River. The scene here seemed a little bit like something from Lord of the Rings on the way to Mordor! We stopped at the end of the day on the way back to the Old Faithful area, where we stayed a few nights at the Old Faithful Snow Lodge. The sun was just setting as we stopped. It was the end of a long day and we didn’t stay around to wait for the show, but I would recommend it as a pretty great place to catch the sunset over the gorge as it lights up these rocks!

The kids were anxious to get to the hotel in hopes there was a pool to play in. I was pretty sure they didn’t have one, yet the kids held onto hope. Final answer… they don’t have a pool. Just in case you were thinking about staying at the Old Faithful Snow Lodge and wondering. You can’t beat the location if you stay there. However, location is definitely what you’re paying for and not the amenities! (No pool, no a/c, and no tv. So-so internet.) We also stayed there during COVID days and so even less than normal was available at the time. So location, location, location…. and that VIEW!!!!
